IT:U is a new technical university in Austria (Linz) dedicated to digital transformation, driven by interdisciplinary research and project-based learning to actively shape this transformation and advance it with a solution-oriented approach.

Join us as an Industrial Expert (f/m/d) *

As Industrial Expert you understand the needs of our industrial partners at a technological level and translate them into actionable items at IT:U. The role bridges outreach, research, and learning and is central to achieve IT:U’s mission to drive digital transformation in industry and beyond.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Engage with industrial partners in a dialogue to assess needs at the technological level

  • Connect companies’ needs to the IT:U action portfolio including learning projects, theses, research projects, or consulting projects

  • Assess the resources necessary to fill the companies’ needs in terms of time, human capital, know-how, and technology

  • Assist in identifying potential industrial collaboration partners based on researchers’ needs or funding scheme requirements

  • Organise and conduct company visits with a focus on production/manufacturing facilities and accompany IT:U staff and students in their interactions with industrial partners

  • Collaborate with the learning department to translate companies’ needs into challenges for project-based learning

  • Represent IT:U at external events with a focus on industrial outreach

  • Build relationships with company representatives at the technical level to manage follow-up projects

  • Build, document, and improve internal processes related to the role

  • Provide substantial input for publications based on industrial collaborations or insights

Your strengths and skills:

  • Academic degree or equivalent in engineering, natural science, computer science or related fields

  • 3+ years experience in production engineering or technological consulting

  • Strong AI affinity and experience with AI tools

  • Industrial knowledge at a production level (familiarity with production processes, automation, robotics)   

  • Strong ability to break down complex technical systems into core structures and processes

  • Solid project management, organizational skills and effective cross-team collaboration

  • Prior involvement in Upper Austrian manufacturing industry and (entrepreneurial) experience ideally in tech-related fields are an asset

  • Curious, creative tech enthusiast (in particular production), empathetic and collaborative communicator, proactive and resilient mindset

  • English and German skills on a minimum level C1 and excellent communication skills are required
