Responsibilities
The Veterinarian supports the Laboratory Animal Facility through hands-on veterinary and in vivo activities, combined with full regulatory responsibility as Project Licence Holder (Tierversuchsleiter:in). The role focuses on the practical execution, planning and oversight of animal experiments in preclinical and GMP-relevant settings, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, scientific quality and compliance.
- Support and substitution of the Named Veterinary Surgeon (Tierärztliche Leitung (AT), Versuchstierarzt), with a strong focus on operational, in-person and hands-on activities, including direct animal health monitoring, clinical assessments, sections, and other day-to-day veterinary tasks within the animal facility
- Technical guidance, in-person support and hands-on training of staff, including classroom-based and practical in vivo training (e.g. i.p. injection techniques)
- Act as Project Licence Holder under the Austrian Animal Experiments Act (TVG 2012) and manage animal experiment applications
- Perform veterinary examinations for animals used in medicinal product testing (AMBO 2009)
- Oversee regulatory reporting and statistics on animal use for scientific purposes
- Support of the Animal Welfare Officer (Ger. „Tierschutzbeauftragte")
- Perform hands-on in vivo experiments while ensuring high scientific and ethical standards
- Plan and coordinate GMP in vivo assays in collaboration with internal teams
- Support R&D in vivo study planning and execution with preclinical and clinical teams
- Manage GMP documentation, quality reviews, equipment qualification, and laboratory records according to internal SOPs
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent veterinary degree
- Eligibility to act as Project Licence Holder (Tierversuchsleiter:in) under applicable national regulations
- Practical experience in a laboratory animal facility or comparable preclinical research environment
- Hands-on experience with in vivo procedures and animal health monitoring
- Experience in the design, preparation and execution of animal experiment applications
- Experience working in regulated environments (e.g. GMP, GLP, or comparable frameworks) is an advantage
- Strong hands-on veterinary and in vivo skills with a practical, solution-oriented mindset
- High sense of responsibility for animal welfare, scientific quality and regulatory compliance
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technicians, supervisors and cross-functional teams
- Good communication skills and confidence in decision-making in operational settings
- Fluency in English; working knowledge of German sufficient for professional communication with Austrian authorities and auditors

Due to legal reasons we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary for this position, which is EUR 60.000 gross per year based on full-time employment. However our salaries are market oriented and in line with your qualifications and experience.
