The Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a Director of Human Resources Office (HRO) position in Vienna. The main focus of the position is to manage the HRO consisting of four departments and having altogether 25+ team members in two locations, in Vienna and Budapest. The Director shall oversee and continuously improve the HR operation and provide HR guidance and strategic partnering with senior leadership across administrative and academic units of the university.

Your key responsibilities:

HR strategy and projects

  • Help design and execute an HR Strategy that steers CEU on its way to complete its transition to Austria
  • Ensure best-in-class HR processes and structure (Performance Management, Talent, Compensation and benefits, L&D, Org design, Communications and Engagement, etc.)
  • Work with managers of Contracting, Payroll and HR Process & Systems team to ensure proper contracting, payroll, full employee life-cycle processes and HR projects
  • Build up learning and development, talent management, and succession planning
  • Ensure proper reward and benefit systems in both locations to continue to provide competitive compensation packages for all CEU roles
  • Lead the implementation of the HR integrated system (SAP SuccessFactors)
  • Implement HR reporting and data management including also developing the structure of regular HR reporting for SLT and Board of CEU
  • Support COO and academic leadership in creating effective organizational structures
  • Ensuring development and updating of HR policies and procedures supporting and regulating the operation in both Vienna and Budapest
  • Oversee the HRO budget and participate in the budgeting process of the departments

People management

  • Lead and inspire HR team leaders and team members
  • Effectively manage performance in HRO sub-units
  • Invest personally in coaching in capability building in HRO

Managing employee relations

  • Provide support and liaise with the University's Works Council
  • Conduct regular consultations with employee groups
  • Engage with the university community in preparation of and while running new initiatives and human resources related change projects
  • Work with CEU committees, the Equal Opportunity Officer, and the Gender Officer (SUPERA project), guide and implement their recommendations

Your skills and experience:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • At least 10+ years of experience in HR management, of which 2-3 years has been in HR executive role
  • Proven track record and experience in managing large-scale HR transformations, organization developments, and projects in an international environment
  • Experience in dealing with Senior Management Team and advising the LT on HR topics (stakeholder management and influencing skills)
  • Understanding of Austrian labour law
  • Fluent in English

We offer a competitive salary starting from gross 100 000 EUR/year. A higher salary is possible if warranted by the candidate's working experience.
