Lectureship Visual Thinking and Visual Storycraft (m/f/x)

Salzburg University of Applied Sciences employs 450 staff members at its four campuses: Campus Urstein, Campus Kuchl, Campus Uniklinikum Salzburg, and Campus Schwarzach. In 18 bachelor's and 15 master's degree programs, 3,400 students train in the fields of engineering, business and social sciences, design, media & art, as well as health sciences. To strengthen our interdisciplinary Bachelor programme MultiMediaArt, we are looking for a lecturer with a strong visual voice and extensive professional experience in visual communication, creative direction and visual concept development.

The position involves teaching within a consecutive two-semester course sequence attended by students from Film, Audio, Communication Design, Animation and Game Design.

Lectureship Visual Thinking

(Winter Semester / 2 weekly semester hour / Type: Lecture with exercise)

Lectureship Future Storytelling

(Summer Semester / 2 weekly semester hour / Type: Lecture with exercise)

The courses form an interdisciplinary minor track that complements the students' primary specialisation ( Film/Audio/Animation/Communication Design). Students develop an individual visual language and learn how visual thinking can strengthen storytelling, communication and creative expression across media and technologies.

The focus is not on software training, but on visual authorship, creative vision and the development of a distinctive visual voice.

Tasks

• Teaching within the consecutive course sequence Visual Thinking and Visual Storycraft
  • Guiding students in the development of an individual visual language fitting their needs/specialisation
  • Encouraging interdisciplinary visual thinking across creative disciplines
  • Supervising practical assignments and student projects
  • Contributing professional perspectives and contemporary industry practices
  • Supporting students in developing an individual creative position
  • Bringing current developments from design, visual culture and creative industries into the classroom

Topics may include:
• Visual thinking and visual communication
• Composition, colour, form and spatial design
• Visual systems and visual languages
• Perception, atmosphere and emotional impact
• Visual storytelling across media and disciplines
• Art Direction and Creative Direction
• Concept development and visual world-building
• Development of an individual visual voice

The language of instruction is English.

Profile

We are looking for applicants (m/f/x) with substantial professional experience in:

Art Direction / Creative Direction / Visual Design / Visual Arts / Related visual and creative disciplines / Visual Communication / Visual Design / Photography / Architecture / Exhibition and Spatial Design 7 Narrative Design / Related visual, spatial and creative disciplines

A relevant university degree and teaching experience are desirable. Outstanding professional achievements and substantial industry experience may compensate for formal requirements.

Conditions

The employment will be in the form of a freelance contract (§ 4 Para. 2 ASVG).

External lecturers are employed under the following conditions:

• Employment is limited to a maximum of 6 semester hours per week.
• External lecturers must have verifiable other employment subject to full social insurance.

1 semester hour = 14 teaching units of 45 minutes each
