Your responsibilities
The Lab Support Facility (LSF) at ISTA provides central services and infrastructure that enable efficient, safe, and compliant research. We are seeking a highly motivated and service-oriented professional to further develop and operate laboratory support structures with focus on experimental life sciences (biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, molecular biology, neuroscience). This position is initially offered as a maternity leave replacement. An extension of the contract may be discussed during the employment period.
- Work closely with research groups to plan, implement and maintain central services for life science research labs
- Procure, maintain and, where appropriate, operate facility equipment (e.g. qPCRs, plate reader) with a focus on histology equipment (e.g. cryostats, microtomes) and tissue culture facilities (e.g. laminar flows, incubators)
- Develop, provide and monitor training and technical support on facility equipment to users
- Develop, implement and monitor laboratory infrastructure services (e.g. safety measures, waste disposal) in accordance with Austrian legislation
- Coordinate laboratory construction and reconstruction to ensure efficient laboratory operations
- Conceive and implement rules, guidelines and SOPs
Your profile
- Advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related field with proven practical experience in experimental life science laboratories
- Sound technical understanding and working knowledge of typical laboratory instrumentation (e.g., qPCR, plate reader, centrifuges) with a focus on histology and tissue culture equipment
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is an advantage: quality management, procurement, laboratory safety, laboratory compliance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (working language of the Institute) and advanced German skills
- A hands-on, proactive, and service-oriented approach, with a strong commitment to supporting researchers
- Excellent organizational and conceptual skills, enabling you to manage projects independently in a complex and evolving environment
- A structured, solution-oriented, and goal-driven working style, with the ability to handle tasks reliably and in a timely manner
