R&D Manager (m/f/d)

Manager Core Development and Biorefinery (m/f/d)

You will have a responsibilty in the following areas:

  • Responsible for running the team as a business unit
  • Promote a performance-based management culture, allocate competencies and resources to ensure milestones delivery
  • Manage changes in the team
  • Foster a creative and entrepreneurial spirit in the team
  • Lead/optimise the potentials of people and actively improve management and business skills on the job to guarantee a high level of know how, competencies and skills to enable scientific success
  • Enhance business unit´s engagement, flexibility and agility
  • Implement change initiatives with clear responsibilities to achieve common goals
  • Build on existing collaboration and partnership with other internal departments, with external industry players, institutes, prospects, and customers where applicable
  • Manage government grants
  • Responsible for legal agreements with external parties in the form of for example NDA's, MTA's and contracts
  • Legal responsible for the site
  • Translate Lean start-up principles and execute on ISO certification and according to SHEQ policy
  • Be integral part of the R&D leadership to build R&D roadmap, lead ideation according to stage gate, derive portfolio, translate goals in SMART deliverables and milestones
  • Execution and coordination of high complex development projects, both related to core or adjacent businesses, assuring realisation of targets, specifications, planning and budget
  • Create extensive external network in order to execute project work in effective way
  • Establish contacts with institutes/universities and external companies to assure access to new development

Qualifications and experience:

  • You have at least a Master degree (e.g. in material science), PhD is preferred
  • You have a strong technical background - at least ten years experience in high level scientific know-how areas related to core business or adjacent fields, material and technologies - with affinity towards commercial success
  • You have a proven ability to manage complex development portfolio decks, preferably in cross-regional teams, including budgeting
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop people and create organisational success
  • Project management experience and proven ability to apply Continuous Improvement methodology with impact
  • Demonstrated on-time delivery and achievement of challenging & complex objectives
  • Proven strategic and conceptual skills in defining holistic approaches going forward
  • You have successfully managed and implemented innovative processes
  • Demonstrated personal flexibility, open and receptive and an excellent listener
  • Able to organise engaging communication to different target groups by being an engaging leader and change driver
  • Maintain excellent stakeholder and peer relationships
  • Excellent delegation skills, business acumen, perspective and holistic view and demonstrated organisational agility
  • Comfortable around higher management
  • Able to travel regularly within Europe including nights away
  • Fluent in German and English


  • Working Hours: Flexitime
  • We offer an annual gross remuneration of EUR 96.000,- for this position
  • Depending on qualifications and/or special professional experience, a higher salary may be agreed upon
