Graphic Design/Branding Manager

Who we are: Swandoo is a young and rising startup in the child safety and family industry. Our first product, Albert, has become an icon with 2 major design awards and coming up as a test winner, best of the year and overall 3rd best in history, in the consumer testing carried by Stiftung Warentest, ADAC, ÖAMTC, and TCS.

As a small team, our objective is to accelerate growth (yayyyy!) in a highly competitive environment dominated by traditional -and boring- players. (Boooo!)

To take Swandoo to new levels, we are looking to grow our team with a Graphic Design/Branding Manager to take on the challenges of steering and further developing the corporate identity and brand experience of Swandoo.

If you wish to accept the role, you'll have to challenge assumptions and shake up the codes with a disruptive and calculated approach.

What will you be responsible for?
You will be working in a casual start-up environment on a wide scope of tasks and deliverables, ranging from strategy and corporate identity, product graphics, website, apps, printed sales material, exhibition design, packaging and anything needed to support our goals.

You'll support the company in strategy definition and implementation by taking a leading role within the team. You will lead the marketing planning and encourage cross-functional collaboration within the company, for example, with other departments such as Sales and local distributors. You will also have to supervise new and ongoing marketing and advertising activities.

You'll lead and assist a team of creative people working on brand initiatives in a wide range of tasks and deliverables: product graphics, packaging, website, social media, print sales materials, in-store visibility, videos, exhibition design, etc... In short, everything necessary to support our objectives and image inside and outside Swandoo.

Whenever needed, you'll have to find, select and direct any out-of-house creative professionals (illustrators, photographers, designers, web programmers, producers, copywriters, etc.) and freelancers engaged to work on the projects.

In short, you will be responsible for the creation of clear, consistent and powerful brand messages and experiences relevant to our target clients.

Other responsibilities are:
Help to establish a strong presence in the design industry, building a name and recognition and attracting new staff by actively engaging and attending industry-activities, conferences, judging, speaking, writing, etc.

The Person:

  • Is a "people" person with strong empathy and family values.
  • Has a good sense of humor and is able to keep the cool under pressure. Yeah!
  • Is self-driven and a resourceful problem solver.
  • Must be collaborative, flexible, highly organized, detail-oriented, positive and ready to take responsibility to help.
  • Must be comfortable working within a multi-cultural progressive startup.
  • Must be a critical thinker, able to connect the dots and with the guts to propose bold new visions and ideas.
  • Has good negotiation and presentation skills to sell and discuss concepts, proposals, and ideas, both internally and externally.
  • Has "an eye" (if you have 2 or more is a plus) for every small detail that makes a direct or indirect impact on the brand experience: Strong skills in print, photography, digital marketing, in-store merchandising, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of different media, their potential, limitations and technical requirements.
  • Is able to differentiate B2B from B2C approaches and the needs from different channels.
  • Must have a high standard for everything… and to be more specific, should be an ace in written and spoken communication skills - English and German are essential. Klasse!
  • Must have a passion for business, marketing, design, innovation and bringing ideas to life that make people smile... and feel there is still hope in humanity.
  • Must have a clear understanding of Design as a professional activity, its role, and its impact in the business context.
  • Must be an excellent team player who understands that Design is not art, is not self-expression and is always a team effort.
  • Having read "Design is a Job" and "You're my favorite client" by Mike Monteiro will secure more karma points.
  • Has 8+ years of experience working in branding and graphic design in agencies, or in-house, AND must have excellent copywriting skills.
  • Black belt ultra ninja master in Adobe CS. (Ninja suit is not provided)

  • We have cookies!
  • Ok… what about your picture on the wall? Not enough?
  • Fine… you will have the possibility to innovate, learn and grow within an international organisation through an exciting phase of development.
  • If you're wondering… yes, we also offer a competitive salary, holidays, etc.
  • Aaaand… a great office space with a multi-cultural environment, and very very nice people ;)
  • P.S. We can also offer a group hug… from time to time. Don't get too excited.
