(Senior) Data Scientist - Financial Crime (f/m/d)

Central Compliance and Strategy acts as overarching management unit between compliance functions (AML, Sanctions, Fraud Prevention, Securities Compliance, Data Protection) as well as governance unit towards Erste Group subsidiaries and branches. Its responsibilities include the definition and management of the Group Compliance Strategy and Compliance Plan, the definition and management of the compliance governance framework as well as the development and performance of the data analytics and risk assessment capability for Compliance.

In this role, you should be highly analytical with a passion for analysis, math and statistics.

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data. We also want to see a passion for modeling and algorithms.You will be in the driving seat for building up the data analytics capability for fighting financial crime in Erste Group.

Your tasks

  • You are ready to deliver independently simple and complex tasks and assignments, not only within its specification
  • You show genuine curiosity and thinking about innovative problem solutions
  • You collaborate with compliance and business units to identify and address financial crime patterns on the basis of data analytics you performed
  • You are responsible for transforming these patterns into AI/machine learning based detection models in the area of financial crime aiming at improving risk detection and efficiency.
  • You are responsible for deploying, monitoring and the recalibration of detection models in production to assure a constantly high service quality
  • You collaborate with internal centers of excellence to identify and deploy cutting edge data science know how in financial crime use cases and models
  • You contribute to the design and maintenance of adequate data models as basis for ongoing insights generation

Your background

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree with a focus on quantitative disciplines
  • 3-5 year experience in quantitative analytics, preferentially in Big Data environments
  • Good understanding of common machine learning approaches (NLP, deep learning, etc.) and algorithms together with the ability to teach junior data scientists
  • Fluent knowledge of major AI/Machine Learning languages and tools such as Python, R, SPARK, KNIME, SQL
  • Experienced in data visualization using tools such as Tableau, QLIK, R Shiny and (data) story telling capabilities
  • A good understanding of the banking business, ideally with concrete financial crime know-how
  • Hands-on experiences in Big Data Ecosystem components (SQOOP, HIVE, IMPALA, OOZIE, KUDU, etc.) including know how regarding Data Streaming (KAFKA, SPARK Streaming) are an advantage
  • English full professional proficiency
