Location: Vienna

For our local operating company with base in Vienna we are currently recruiting for a Medical Director Janssen Austria

As part of the Management Board Janssen Austria and reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Medical functional strategies and activities (Medical Affairs and Regulatory) of the full company portfolio, defined in collaboration with the cross-functional teams. You will also define & manage the necessary resources (budget and headcount) required for the organization and the performance of the activities of the medical department. In your function as people leader you will build and develop a best-in-class Medical Affairs team and as a standing member of the local Management Board you will represent Janssen to relevant internal & external stakeholders.

YOUR responsibilities & YOUR impact:

  • Set a clear strategic vision within the local Medical Affairs functions
  • Ensure that Janssen will bring to the patients the products, which are supported by robust and scientific medical data and these products will be accompanied by the correct and up to date medical information system and risk management plan.
  • Shape the local Medical Department strategy for the Janssen Austria portfolio and lead the implementation of the key activities through the medical teams in alignment with the local Management Board, the objectives of the Company and the global and regional plans.
  • Define and manage the budgets and the resources required for the organization and the performance of the activities of Medical Department
  • Create a culture of agility, effective decision-making, accountability and empowerment to the lowest level possible where employees can perform to their highest potential and where career aspirations and capabilities are nurtured.
  • Ensure the alignment of the activities developed by the different divisions of Medical Department with J&J Credo, applicable J&J procedures and policies including but not limited to those related with Health Care Compliance, Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance, GCPs, Regulatory Regulations and local Legislation
  • Act as the senior local representative to key external stakeholders such as Regulatory Authorities, professional bodies, patient associations & media, and cultivate trusting, transparent and collaborative relationships with these stakeholders, representing the company and acting as a company spokesperson in matters of medical, scientific and ethical nature, building company reputation and establishing Janssen as the preferred scientific partner.

We would love to hear from YOU, if you have:

  • Medical Degree strongly preferred
  • High knowledge in medicine, methodology and regulatory
  • At least 10-12 years' experience in Pharma industry with relevant Medical and Business Experience
  • Experienced people leader (5 years' experience in functional/people leadership) with strong track record of talent development
  • Experience of collaboration with market access, esp. in developing value propositions and Health Technology Assessment dossiers
  • Knowledge in legal and finance
  • Impactful influencer, passionate networker and communicator - demonstrated ability to work with KOLs and external stakeholders
  • Highly agile (mental, results, change and people agility as well as leadership agility) - strategic thinking & strong business acumen
  • English and German fluency
  • 20-30% of travelling (national and international)
