Job description

During your PhD thesis project, we will guide you to become an outstanding expert for distributed real-time test controller networks that will be applied at KAI and Infineon for stress testing of advanced power semiconductors. Your PhD research will focus on these particular tasks and questions:

  • Optimal system configuration (µC, FPGA,…) regarding performance versus development effort
  • Timed operation and synchronization of multiple test nodes with microsecond resolution
  • Target hardware requirements (to be implemented with electrical engineering master students)
  • Implementation and validation of a real-time test controller firmware prototype
  • System deployment strategy for distributed controller networks

Your PhD project will require you to advance your skills in microcontroller and FPGA-based digital control system design and simulation. You are also expected to document your results by writing scientific papers and finally submitting your PhD thesis to the University of Klagenfurt.

Start: 01.01.2020 (or later)
Full-time employment: 38.5 hrs/week
Duration: 3 years

Profile

You hold a Master degree in the area of Informatics, Telematics or Information technology and are familiar with embedded software design. You have a strong ambition for developing advanced system concepts and implementing them on embedded target hardware. As the ideal candidate, you are ready to:

  • acquire solid knowledge and experience in applied research and software design (C, LabVIEW…)
  • tutor engineering Master students, who will support your PhD project with their contribution
  • work and communicate well with our international team in English and/or German
