University of Vienna at the Department of Structural and Computational Biology have an opening for a motivated

IT System Administrator (part-time, 20 hrs)

The earliest starting date is 01.10.2019 and the position is initially limited to 1 year with subsequent continuation as unlimited employment, after successful evaluation. A transition to full-time employment can be negotiated (40 hrs).

The Department is a part of Max Perutz Labs, a joint-venture between University of Vienna and Medical University of Vienna. As a part of the wider Vienna Biocenter Campus in Vienna's 3rd district, the Department hosts approximately 60 scientists from more than 20 countries organized in 8 research groups involved in basic research in structural and computational biology.

Your tasks:

  • implementation and installation as well as maintenance of the complete IT network for teaching and research (Window, Linux, Mac on desk-tops, laptops and a high-performance computing cluster)
  • further development and maintenance, including programming, of client IT infrastructure (workplace and instrumentation related) and servers in the Department (Window, Linux, Mac)
  • support to staff with hardware and networking issues (LAN and WLan)
  • installation and maintenance of specific scientific software (Window, Linux, Mac)
  • maintenance of the Department webpage (typo 3)
  • maintenance of printers and/or similar multifunctional devices/peripherals as well as of 3D printer (BQ Witbox 2)
  • communication with the Central IT Service (ZID) of the University of Vienna and with IT team of Max Perutz Labs
  • analysis and resolution of failures and repair
  • restructuring of IT-infrastructure

Your profile

  • a high-school diploma from an accredited institution, preferably in the area of IT (systems or network technology) or similar
  • an extensive experience with Linux systems as support service or system administrator
  • independence in solving complex IT problems
  • efficient, cooperative, responsible and independent working style
  • advanced skills in administrating Windows, Linux and Mac systems
  • experience in writing Unix Shell scripts
  • excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken)
  • very good knowledge of German (written and spoken)
  • open, communicative and stress-resistant personality with the ability to interact with scientists at all levels
  • readiness for further professional development
  • knowledge of University structures and procedures is a plus

The monthly pay for 40 hrs is defined by the salary scheme for general university personnel (level according to collective agreement §54 VwGr. IIIb), whereby the exact monthly brutto salary depends on the qualification and experience.
