Job description

The world energy consumption is estimated to grow steadily in the following years in the order or of 30%, resulting in a forecast of power consumption in 2040 which duplicates the value obtained in the year 2000. Half of this total energy is used in areas related to motion.

To overcome this global issue, the energy efficiency regulations force the use of variable speed drives, which can save up to 60% of energy. The use of inverter technology allows to regulate the motor speed resulting in a significant reduction of electricity consumption.

In our group we make inverterization possible by providing the means to perform an efficient control of our isolated gate drivers, while maintaining a high degree of flexibility. This increasing demand on intelligent circuitry promotes the use of state-of-the-art methodologies in the digital filed never used before in this industrial field, such as high-level prototyping and metamodeling techniques.

Our goal is to establish an efficient and tailored infrastructure in order to face current and future challenges in the area of digital design and verification. To achieve our goals, we will use emerging industry standards such as IP-XACT, SystemRDL and PSS (portable Test and Stimulus).

Some potential areas of study are:

  • Meta-generation of tailored elements such as:
  • Verification IPs
  • Portable Test and Stimulus
  • AMS component generation
  • Tailored UVM verification components
  • Generation of XML metadata
  • Integration of digital development with our SystemC environment

Further information:
Duration: Temporary / 6 months full-time (38,5h/w)
Starting date: 03.06.2019 (working permit for Non-EU citizens takes about 6 weeks)

This position is subject to the collective agreement for workers and employees in the electrical and electronics industry. Master students receive a compensation of 2.210,-- Euro gross p.m. (full-time basis)


You are best equipped for this task if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree of Electrical Engineer or Computer Science
  • Basic knowledge of hardware languages such as VHDL and SystemVerilog
  • Basic understanding of analog/mixed-signal design flows (Cadence, Synopsys)
  • Good object-oriented programming skills
  • Basic understanding of XML
  • Fluent English skills (B2 Independent User), German skills as a plus
