Scope: Real time localization systems (RTLS) rely on the processing of fundamental physical properties like distance and/or angle between objects. The performance of such an RTLS depends heavily on the accuracy of the underlying measurements. The present NXP RTLS consist of anchors (Ax) capable to angle and range and nodes (Ny) with only ranging capability. In this master theses, the NXP RTLS shall be evaluated in terms of performance against multipath propagation effects and physical antenna pattern imperfections.

Objectives:

  • Familiarization with the NXP RTLS integrated circuits (ICs) representing a fully coherent implementation of the IEEE 802.15.4a, reading and processing of the channel impulse responses (CIRs)
  • Literature research on suitable calibration methods to minimize multipath propagation effects and methods to calibrate antenna pattern imperfections Drc=Dr(ϴ,Φ)Cr(ϴ,Φ), where Cr(ϴ,Φ) is the calibration function depended on azimuth (ϴ) and elevation (Φ)
  • Design and Implementation of the studied calibration method on the integrated Anchor/ Node DSP
  • Evaluation of real-time performance

Your Profile:

  • Master student in electrical engineering or similar studies
  • Basic knowledge of signal processing and firmware development
  • Personal engagement and eagerness to learn, good communication skills in English
  • Experience with Matlab, C++, Python
  • Beneficial skills on antenna design, corresponding design tools (e.g. CST Microwave Studio)

For the successful completion of the Master Thesis you will receive a remuneration of a one-time payment of EUR 5.150, - gross. Additional you will get a bonus of EUR 2.000, - gross if you receive an excellent grade "Sehr gut" for your Thesis.
