AVL is the world's largest independent company for development, simulation and testing technology of powertrains (hybrid, combustion engines, transmission, electric drive, batteries and software) for passenger cars, trucks and large engines.

We offer a master thesis:

Dynamic Explicit and Implicit simulations submodeling technics

The dynamic explicit solver is used to assess highly nonlinear and dynamic events such as a crash. But due to its limitations, finite element models are often oversimplified. The goal of this thesis is the development of a methodology allowing to use the advantages of both the explicit and implicit approaches for one problem, mainly by submodeling or by a co-simulation. This methodology will then be used in electrification projects for passenger cars and trucks.

Task:

  • Literature study on existing sumodeling technics
  • Development suitable finite element analysis test models
  • FEM simulation
  • Development of a new modeling methodology

Study:

  • Field(s) of study: mechanical engineering

Requirements:

  • Technical understanding
  • Knowledge of finite element method
  • Basic knowledge of dynamic simulations
  • Knowledge of Abaqus FEA is a plus

Remuneration: The successful completion of the thesis is remunerated with a one-time fee of EUR 2,500 before tax.

According to the Austrian Employment of Foreign Nationals Act it is unfortunately not possible to assign graduate work to third-country citizens (Non-EU citizens) and Croatian citizens who study at a university abroad.
