Director R&D (f/m) - Pharma Production - API

As part of the Site Leadership Team you are responsible for a team of scientists developing new processes in the lab, including the transfer to the pilot plant and optimization of existing procedures for established commercial products. Heading a team of 50 R&D employees you provide professional leadership in the execution of all relevant work processes and ensure process efficiency and effectiveness as well as continuous improvements.

Your responsibilities

  • Support mid/long term R&D strategy and secure implementation after approval
  • Ensure all necessary capacities in adequate quality and quantity (R&D equipment, infrastructure, etc)
  • Provide scientific leadership to direct reports and their teams
  • Operational alignment with Quality, Project Management, Business and Production
  • Client-contact for all scientific issues incl. client-presentations and issue resolution
  • Leadership, motivation and development of allocated employees
  • Planning and budgeting of R&D resources
  • Responsible for safety in R&D laboratories, Lab-infrastructure and maintenance, coordination of affiliates regarding new constructions/investments, dealing with relevant authorities regarding safety restraints
  • Responsible for development and implementation of guidelines on safe handling of hazardous materials
  • Contact with internal as well as external research centers and universities

Your qualifications

  • University degree (PhD) in Organic Chemistry
  • 10+ years' experience in process development and/or chemical manufacturing/engineering
  • Multiyear experience ideally in Pharma CDMO business, Chemical Service or Pharma business
  • Experience within project and resource management
  • Top communicator with strong leadership personality
  • Full professional proficiency in German and English (written and spoken)
