Job description

The aims of this PhD thesis are:
  • Elaborate an analysis concept for surface investigations regarding stoichiometry, oxidation state, roughness, surface termination, and contamination levels of GaN surfaces
  • Investigate the fundamental mechanisms of particle removal and surface conditioning in wet chemical cleaning processes on GaN materials considering the different GaN surfaces
  • Identify similarities and differences to Si and SiC cleaning and surface conditioning mechanisms
  • Establish understanding on surface state prior to MOCVD growth
  • Explore and understand the impact of wet chemical cleaning processes on electrical device parameters
  • Finally the PhD shall propose, based on generated understanding, optimized cleaning and surface conditioning processes
Start: 01.08.2019 (or later)
Full-time employment: 38.5 hrs/week
Duration: 3 years

Profile

You are best equipped for this task if you have:
  • A master degree in chemistry, technical chemistry, physics, materials science, semiconductor process technology or equivalent with excellent grades
  • A dynamic personality with strong interest in applying scientific methodology to enable pioneering progress in industrial development and manufacturing processes
  • A team player mindset with the capability to work interdependently in a high-tech environment together with world-class experts
  • Systematic working style and desire to generate unprecedented know-how at highest technical level
  • Excellent command of English is mandatory, German will be an advantage
